In 1987’s bomb blasts that ripped Karachi’s Soldier Bazaar, a group of students involved in Dow Medical College’s Patients Welfare Association rushed to help. Seeing the limited capacity in the emergency ward of the city’s Civil Hospital, they decided to collect funds to expand the casualty department. And they did. They also vowed to establish a free-of-charge hospital. Indus Hospital was established in.
Today, more than 20 years later, it spreads over 20 acres of land in Karachi’s densely populated Korangi area. Two things make it unique: it is paperless and free of cost.
